Hi everyone, just signed up last month, and really impressed with this product, in fact it boggles my mind each day I explore it.
My background, 30 years plus fan and player of races, originally started out as a way to connect with my brother in law, a good player instinctive with concentration on trainers (Why does Doug O'Neill Have This Horse in this Race ? is an example of where he starts from, after that, I don't know where he goes but hes good.)

Well he has a few years on me and im the smoker but he's had bypasses, a handful of pills a day. I got into this to connect with him then did not like losing, bought all the books, then dabbled with databases. After a really stupid day a few weeks ago where we had a great price exacta and still left the track 300 down I thought about it $89 a month is cheap at twice the price.

I have a question re importing to excel but i'll try to find that thread and add or start a new one.

Welcome aboard Tony. You’re in for quite a ride. JCapper is tremendously flexible. I’m not nearly as advanced as others on this board in terms of utilization, but still have had much success. I think the ability to create your own ratings is very unique and powerful. The limits are endless in what you can do with JCapper. Best of luck in your journey.

Thanks Guys, Currently Learning JCapper just using the Data Window right now very simple analysis gradually getting more proficient. SQL next.

I used formulator way back for about 6 months, also did a stint with HTR over a decade ago, but I was drowning in data after six months , played with those databases off and on. Now kids are grown love turning this on late in the evening and really its a great Tool, much to learn, but even from a data analysis perspective alone its an education. Thanks for the offers of help.

Wanted to share a bit more here about angles, trepidation, working with old data and singing up for this awesome Tool-Program.

I actually was happy to see some warm hellos and wanted to share a little more, but I was not logged in (slap forehead) lost it. maybe that's good thing probably too long anyway.

With the old formulator data you could export horses lifetime histories, I had over 100,000 horses after 6 months with them way back, they did not have results etc, no tools.

Anyway I used it to explore Russel Baze, I'm in Northern California (Miss Bay Meadows) but he always confounded you. that simple database and watching an interview with a European Jockey where he said his job was to be on the best horse in the race gave me an angle. How did Baze do with first time on the horse versus again on the horse, He was average first time at least from that sample. It helped to know that. It's chicken and egg, good jockeys get good Horses because they are good. Though Desormeaux blew a triple crown some time back because he wanted it too much (Bad Rides:))

Anyway I also played with HTR (in the late 90's DRF had CD's of all races for a year had played with them also) back over a decade ago. Good program but with the exports after 6 months was drowning in data had to give up, was running a kids football club at the time (Chase couple hundred parents for birth certs and school grade lol) and working.

So back to my introductory post, in the car on the way back from a day where we had a 50 dollar exacta (not luck we really figured this favorite was not good, boxed 3 for 6 bucks (yes played way too little, no go at the double, tri, pick 3) got 4 to one over 13 to one, but lost overall). We talked been playing for decades, we are recreational not looking to buy the grandstand, I said to Joe there's a program and board I've lurked on, we need to play for the year not the day or race, angles are good but what of the other horses in the race, or next race and the one after that. Also things have changed favorites are winning more (smaller fields?).

So bit the bullet sign up, no drowning in data with this program, yes it requires time to learn, but as an engineer I can see the 10's of thousands of hours that have gone into it,
For the price its a no brainer.

Apologies if should not have put this in the 101 thread, have a few more VBA routines i'll add to the Import Excel thread to make amends.

Also like to add this is a very polite board, Very! says something about the users.

Also when I had a question and while I found a solution Jeff answered me the next day! and I wrote late at night.

Have some VBA stuff I can share re scratches (occurred earlier maybe not the best description I think they were scratched earlier, data not in JCP file but still in HDW file) and one strange item re the first horse not being #1 in post along with cancellations.

I'll sign off getting late now, but based on a simple fact playing in the data window the false favorite we had was flagged illegitimate (sample of 1 of course, but affirming supported by good reasons) finally decided to not be a day player anymore, play the game, and this is the right tool, to increase your satisfaction in this game.

P.S. in the book "Outliers" (think that was the book). 20,000 hours to be a concert Pianist was given as an example. Working with this program and how factors are broken down I would never get there alone, glad I overcame the trepidation to commit to playing this game even if it will be mostly virtual, live and new data is more satisfying than wondering.

Actually I'll add one more thing before I turn in

it probably helps to have tried other approaches before you come here (at least in my case) then your appreciation grows as you use the tools.
